Skin Care Tips For Road Trips

Skin Care Tips For Road Trips

When the holidays are approaching, many of us begin to think about road trips to visit family. These long journeys in the car for hours a day disrupt our normal routines. Our skin often suffers, because we can't care for it as well as we do when we're home and it can become dehydrated and dull.

Here are a few tips that can help you keep your skin glowing, even when you're on the road for hours, or even days at a time:

Eat Fresh Fruit And Vegetables

Of course it's not so easy to find fresh fruit and veggies on the road. But you can pack a bag of apples and a bag of oranges before you set out. They travel well and will remain edible for a few days even without refrigeration. If you're lucky enough to find rest stops with other fresh fruit and raw vegetables along the way, snatch them up and eat them, too. Opt for salads at fast food places, instead of greasy burgers and fries. Several fast food chains including McDonald's and Jack in the Box offer salad choices.

You might be reluctant to drink as much water as you should when you're on the road, because it causes you to have to stop to go to the bathroom too often. High water content fruits and veggies give your body the moisture it needs without causing you to have to pull over every hour.

According to Dr. Howard Murad, author of The Water Secret the water we "eat" when we consume fresh fruit and vegetables is water that will provide a slow and steady infusion as we digest it. It's also water that nourishes our cells even better than the water we drink. Murad explains that much of our drinking water passes right through our system, but the water in high water content fruits and vegetables stays in our bodies longer. So, eat an apple, or an orange, or even better, both, a few times a day and you'll get the hydration you need, but you won't have to use the bathroom as often as you would if you were hydrating with water alone. An added benefit: According to Dr. Murad, the hydration you get from fresh fruit helps your skin look younger!

Wear Hat And Sunscreen

If you're driving during the day, the sun can really abuse your skin. Even when you're inside the car with the windows closed the rays are penetrating, so be sure to protect any exposed skin. Use sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher and wear a hat, preferably one with a wide brim. You'll help prevent freckles, age spots, and premature aging. Be sure to put some sunscreen on your hands as well. We tend to forget about protecting our hands. As a result, age spots show up there even faster than they appear on the face. Keep a tube of sunscreen in the car where you can reach it easily and apply it often.

Use Cleansing Wipes Made Specifically For The Face

When you're on the road, naturally you're going to be off your regular skin-care routine. It's difficult to make it a priority when you're driving 8 hours a day or more. But don't let your regimen slack off so badly that you don't cleanse your skin at least once or twice daily.

Ready to use cleansing wipes made specifically for the face are wonderful for times when you're just too tired to go through the whole routine of washing up and removing your makeup. Be sure to pack these wipes before you set off on your journey. They can be a skin-saver when you stop at a motel after driving all day and into the night and all you want to do is fall onto the bed. It only takes a minute to run the wipes over your face and completely remove dirt and makeup, preparing the skin for a rejuvenating night's rest. According to Dr. Oz, sleep allows the skin to restore its natural balance. Cleansing and moisturizing before bed assists in this restorative process.

Moisturize

As previously mentioned, using a sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher is essential during the day. Many excellent daytime moisturizers have this sunscreen protection. Consider using a moisturizing cream overnight, too. Sleep and a good moisturizer will work together to restore your skin, leaving it refreshed in the morning and ready for a new day on the road. Because you're off your regular routine and not eating and drinking as well as you would when you're home, moisturizing is even more important while you're traveling.

Take Omege 3s

Fish oil capsules, or flaxseed oil capsules, or both will help keep your skin lubricated from inside when you add them to your diet. They're easy to pack and they travel just fine. Take a couple, twice a day with meals while you're on the road and this will provide great support for your skin.

Drink A Bit Of Water At Least Every Hour

It's understandable that when you're trying to get somewhere and make good time, you don't want to have to stop to go to the bathroom every hour. But drinking a Dixie-cup sized amount of water, 3 oz, once every hour or so won't cause you to stop too frequently. That tiny amount, ingested regularly throughout the day, can be helpful to your skin and it's much better for you than forgoing water for too long. While it's preferable to drink 8 glasses a day, when you can't, if you take in a little throughout your day (and supplement with fruit) you can stave off dehydration and also assist your circulation (water helps the blood flow better) both of which benefit your skin.

Do Five Minutes Of Exercise When You Stop For Gas

Blood flow is one of the things that keeps your skin healthy. It's through the blood that nutrients are carried to your skin tissue. When you're sitting in a car all day, your heart rate remains pretty low and so the blood isn't pumping fast enough to give you good blood flow to the skin. Consider doing at least five minutes of exercise each time you stop. You might do some jumping jacks while you're filling your gas tank. Jog in place while you wait on line at the bathroom. Or you could take a power walk around the gas station or rest area. A jump rope is easy to pack and couple of minutes of jumping rope is a great way to get your heart rate up quickly. That blood flow will benefit your skin and your circulation, which will keep you looking and feeling better on your trek.

Avoid Snacks With Sugar And White Flour

Candy and other sweets are tempting while you're traveling, but once you eat them, your body craves more. Sugar and white flour contain empty calories and will lead to poor nutrition. This can show up, in a negative way, on your face and body. Sugar and white flour can lead to weight gain and skin problems. Many people find that they lose weight and their skin clears up when they eliminate sugar and white flour from the diet. Unfortunately, sugary, empty calorie treats are available in abundance on the road, so you have to make smart choices when buying snacks. Consider nuts instead of candy and look for whole grain snacks instead of things like snack cakes. It's best to plan ahead and pack things like fruit, nuts, hard-boiled eggs and individual serving canned tuna so you won't be tempted to eat junk just because it's the easiest thing to get.

You deserve to look and feel fantastic, even when you're on a road trip. With a little thought, you can keep yourself healthy and gorgeous no matter how long or arduous your journey. Hope these tips will help you arrive wearing your best face when you get where you're going. Enjoy your trip!

The Value of Skin Care

The Value of Skin Care

Being the largest organ, the importance of our skin must not be taken lightly. Most of us take skin care for granted until signs of aging or skin conditions happen.

The situation may or may not be reparable, depending on the extent of the condition. Often, only then do we think of doing something to really care for our skin.

Why wait until your skin screams for immediate attention when you can prevent unsightly skin situations? We should start caring for our skin and the earlier it is done, the better. The time will come that you will be glad you did.

Skin care is not that difficult or that expensive but yes, you need to invest a little in order to maintain a healthy, supple skin.

It is not simply a quick wash. Even if you do spend a little, what price is that compared to how your skin functions as a protection, acting as both barrier and filter because we are exposed to too much toxins found in the environment?

Skin aging is something we can't stop but it accelerates when it does not receive proper care. There are several reasons why skin deteriorates fast and these include diet, physical activities, genetic factors, sun exposure, pollutants that abound in the atmosphere and more.

We are all exposed to all these therefore, men and women need follow a daily skin care regimen no matter how basic.

Our skin functions in different ways:

- It helps regulate body temperature during physical work out or when we are running a fever by sweating heat out of the pores.

- It prevents harmful substances from penetrating our bodies.

- It helps our liver and kidney filter our metabolism's offshoots.

- It plays an important role in the function of our immune system which helps combat diseases.

These are just some of the vital functions that our skin does for us. Also, it is the most exposed part of our body and the healthier our skin is, the more pleasing we look.

The more pleasing we look and we know it, the better confidence we have ourselves. Beauty and health begin with a clear, healthy and youthful-looking skin.

That is why proper skin care should be everybody's concern. Besides, you can never go wrong with taking care of your skin the right way. As a matter of fact, it can only be beneficial now and in the long run.

The Benefits of Natural Skin Care Products

The Benefits of Natural Skin Care Products

There is no shortage of skin care products on the shelves of every grocery store, pharmacy, and even department store. Each of the products claims to be able to cure every skin concern, from dry skin to oily skin, from acne to fine lines.

The reality is that unless you know exactly what ingredients go into the skin care products that you are using, it really is irrelevant what they claim to be able to accomplish for your skin. A large portion of the products on the market are steeped in unidentifiable chemicals that can actually have a very negative effect on your overall health. In order to get the healthiest possible skin, it is preferable to rely on natural skin care products to help alleviate the skin concerns that you are living with.

There are a number of really great reasons to incorporate all-natural products into your daily beauty regimen.

First and foremost are the hypo-allergenic properties that a fair portion of all natural skin care products can offer. While the rare individual may still have a mild reaction to even the most natural of skin care products, the majority of people who use them will find that they are typically well tolerated by even the most sensitive skin types.

The allergic reactions that are often noticed are mostly as a result of the use of chemical ingredients in the products. As an example, a portion of the population will actually break out into an itchy rash when they apply deodorant.

The reason for the itchy and oftentimes painful reaction is due to the aluminum and other compounds used in the deodorants. So while they smell powder fresh, in reality they are in absolute misery from the reaction their skin is having to the product.

By using all natural skin care products, you can avoid those types of reactions to the hand creams, face creams, and even soaps that you use as a part of your daily beauty regimen.

Another factor that is related to allergies or sensitive is that the best natural skin care products typically have a much more mild and natural scent to them. They don't include those strong artificial scents that could actually be responsible for kicking off an allergic or otherwise sensitive response. Even the smell of artificial vanilla can send some sensitive people into sneezing fits and cause headaches.

One of the other important considerations about natural skin care products is that they do not contain known carcinogens and endocrine disruptors like the chemically-laden products do. Parabens and phosphates are just two types of ingredients most often found in a wide variety of health and beauty products; even those products designed specifically for use on infants.

By incorporating all natural and healthy products into the daily routine of caring for your family's skin, you'll be able to effectively protect their health, for the long-term. A great portion of the ingredients contained within some of the most popular skin care products aren't just unpronounceable, but they have no place in any products that will be applied directly to your skin. When you apply lotion to your face, the chemicals contained with the lotion will swiftly find their way into your skin and into your blood stream. The same holds true for all types of skin care products that are chockfull of chemical ingredients.

Protect your health and still keep your skin looking radiant by picking out the best natural skin care products that will help you to see an improvement in the skin condition you are hoping to alleviate. Nature truly does know best when it comes to the care of your delicate skin.

3 Most Important Steps to Face Skin Care

3 Most Important Steps to Face Skin Care

How does our skin age?

In everyday life there are a number of things that can damage our skin or weaken skin cells. This is due to two main elements: sun exposure and lack of moisture. If we suffer from these elements for long periods of time, our skin will begin the appearance of aging faster than if these were avoided. Our skin will wrinkle, we will get sun spots and our skin will become rough and dry. For almost all women this is a devastating problem, especially if this occurs to the skin on their face. So, what can we do about this aging problem?

Face Skin Care

Face skin care has become increasingly popular as women strive to restrict the aging of their skin. Women now have access to a range of anti aging products that enable them to retain the beauty of their face as they get older. For many women nowadays, face skin care has become part of everyday life and is almost a ritual. There are three main steps that, if followed, will reduce the aging process and make you look younger. The three steps are:

Cleansing.

Protecting your skin from the sun.

Exfoliating and Moisturizing.

Cleansing your skin is of utmost importance. If dirt, grime and oil stay dormant on the skin they can clog pores and cause skin blemishes. Unfortunately many good cleansers can be harmful to the skin causing it to be dry and harsh. However there are ways to counteract this affect.

The purpose of skin care is to keep woman's skin youthful and vibrant. An important part of this is to avoid and prevent damage from the sun. Not only does this prevent the likelihood of skin cancer but it will decrease the appearance of aging. This can be done by making sure sunscreen is worn each time you are out in the sun. Sunscreen has the ability to absorb UV rays to stop sunburn. Being diligent in this method will help your skin when aging and prevent age spots from occurring.

During the winter months when damage from the sun is less troubling, there are other problems that occur with our skin. During winter, our bodies shed less skin than is required causing it to feel dry and rough. The best way to fix this is to use exfoliates followed by moisturizing cream. Exfoliates will assist your body to shed that dead skin that causes a dry looking appearance and can clog your pores. Moisturizer will then give the skin a suppler feel and keep it looking vibrant.

In addition to all of these steps, there is also the issue of your age. Face skin care can be a different routine depending on the age of your skin. By age I am referring to the condition not the amount of time you have spent alive.

The difference exists because skin ages differently for different people. This theory implies that if your skin care routine depends on the conditions you have put your skin through. If your skin has suffered a great deal of sun damage then you are likely to benefit from anti wrinkle cream even if you are in your early twenties.

As the want for more healthy skin has risen, a massive industry of products has formed. Isles in cosmetics shops are filled with different products and brands all with different purposes and quality. This can make the task of determining what to buy very difficult and confusing.

This is the reason why many tests and reviews have been conducted by the women who buy these products to determine which ones work and which are good value. These case studies ad tests can be found on many websites which will provide products that work, best value products and top rated by users. I have found a popular anti aging focused review website that has studied and received consumer ratings for a number of different products.

A Simple Guide to Gorgeous Skin

A Simple Guide to Gorgeous Skin

Having youthful, radiant skin is something we all aspire to - and achieving that luminous glow is easy by adhering to a few key tips regarding healthy skin care.

To begin, did you know that your skin is a clear indication of what's going on inside your body? It's true - and just like the old saying goes, "We are what we eat" - so steer clear of foods that are bad for your system, because they can be even worse for your skin.

Typical foods that can lead to breakouts, irritation and other negative skin reactions are sugar, white flour, and fried foods.

Opt for skin-friendly foods instead, particularly those that are rich in antioxidants like blueberries and green teas or those that are high in healthy fatty acids like salmon, walnuts, and flaxseed.

Both antioxidants and positive fatty acids carry anti-inflammatory agents and also work to protect strong cell membranes so that your skin can readily block toxins from entering your system and wreaking havoc on your skin.

Above all, drink lots of water - there's nothing like a healthy dose of regular H2O to keep your body cleansed of pollutants, and your skin sufficiently hydrated.

As for the goings on outside of your body, there are several ways to pave the way to gorgeous skin. First and foremost, wash your face! A good rule of thumb is to wash your face twice a day - once in the morning and once before bed - to be sure to keep your skin free of oil build-up, dirt, make-up, and other daily debris.

It's also wise to give yourself a quick rinse after using any hair products, since some sprays, gels and mousses contain pore-clogging ingredients.

Get into the habit of exfoliating regularly, too - but avoid harsh exfoliants that only irritate your skin by opting for gentle scrubs.

Another must-do for must-have skin is moisturizing. The right moisturizer ensures that your skin stays pliable, smooth, and resilient while replacing any lost hydration.

Like most skin products, it's best to choose your moisturizer according to your skin type - oily skin benefits from lighter-weight lotions while dry skin reacts best to creamier hydrators.

And don't forget the sunscreen! UV rays are the most notorious culprit of wrinkles, age spots, and other skin flaws, so choose a moisturizer with an SPF of at least 15.

Overall, honoring your skin by honoring your body is the fastest, most effective way to a beautiful, gleaming complexion.

Skin Care Treatment for Everyone

Skin Care Treatment for Everyone

No matter what stage of life you are at, you will always experience one or two skin problems at some point.

Whether it is acne in your teens, eczema when you are in your mid twenties or even psoriasis when you are a whole older, you are bound to experience any one of these in your life.

They are also not age related as well, so you can experience acne in your fifties and even infants can have psoriasis in some cases.

The easiest thing to do with your skin is to be pro-active with it all the time. Do whatever you can to keep it clean, healthy and protected as often as possible and you will go a long way to preventing most of the skin ailments you can get.

If you have already got something that needs to be treated then it is always best to approach a physician or specialist for skin care treatment.

Dermatologists are probably the better choice to go for if your condition is complicated, but a regular GP can diagnose most problems and prescribe whatever you need to treat it.

However, if they cannot treat something or they are unfamiliar with the problem, they will most likely refer you to the specialist, so either way you will always end up in the right hands as long as you seek out a doctor that can help you.

Some people get embarrassed about their problems and try to avoid the doctors as long as they can.

They buy whatever over the counter medication they can and use it in the hope that it will get rid of a rash or fungus, but they don't realise that each skin problem is different and requires a specific treatment rather than a general one.

To give you an example, you can take athletes foot. Regular anti-bacterial powders and creams might prevent the itching and reduce the symptoms but the fungus will never go away.

You then have to seek out a podiatrist to get the proper treatment so that you get rid of it for good!

There are all kinds of amazing new technologies being used to treat skin problems including the use of lasers for cancer and even lipo-treatments.

Pigmentation problems can also be corrected with laser therapy. Some of the laser treatments have shown improved growth in the blood vessels to the skin, improving circulation.

Many of the skin treatments you find are either designed to maintain, cure and improve the overall condition of the skin leaving you looking healthier, younger and more vibrant.

Claude Bernard has big experience as an author on the topic like skin care treatment. He contributes his knowledge on fashion and life style. On demand of web publication he writes content for skin diagnosis, health and beauty in extra.

Anti-Aging Skin Care: Why Can't We Just Keep it Simple

Anti-Aging Skin Care: Why Can't We Just Keep it Simple

If you've ever tried to find a skin care product to deal with the skin care concerns of aging skin, you're probably as confused as the average person. There are so many products and ingredients that tout 'increase in this', 'decrease in that' , 'revitalized this and revitalized that' and on and on and on. Many empty promises or over-hyped formulations.

In order to understand what anti-aging skin care products are intended to do, you have to first understand about what the aging process is for skin. Aging skin has the condition where the structural proteins that bind and support the skin, collagen and elastin, lose their resiliency and cohesion, causing the skin to wrinkle and/or sag. The body's ability to produce new collagen and elastin also diminishes with age while the cells in the various layers of our skin decline and thin, losing the ability to adequately maintain moisture. Without proper hydration, the healing mechanisms of the skin cease to function, adversely affecting the skin's ability to receive nutrients and repair itself. The result is rough, lose, wrinkled skin.

Of course, we all want to have the best skin possible at any age and are searching for solutions to maintain our skin's youthfulness. In our quest and with the constant marketing and advancements in skin care, it can sometimes be difficult to find an affordable and effective solution for great skin care.

However, what you need to know is that it doesn't have to be that complex (as many of the product name suggest!). What you should consider is that what any skin care program should be is simple. That's it, just simple. The results that we all want are simple: soft, smooth, clear, radiant, younger-looking skin.

Too much of the time now days, skin care marketers are trying to convenience consumers that they need formulations that no average consumer can understand, or day and night products, or formulations that highly successful, well-known personalities would use. If you think about it, how many products do you currently have in your storage that were purchased because of these marketing strategies?

With these types of advertising, there are so many re-touches and questionable representation of the product effectiveness because the personality also receives so many other types of services and procedures that impact the condition of skin that you really cannot know the true results that the highly marketed products will bring.

The positive side of the situation is that there are constant and ever evolving advances in skin care and we all have the option for our skin condition improving with age.

If you are looking for a skin care program, there are some guidelines you may want to consider when making your skin care choices:

 Protect your skin while you are in the sun and extreme weather. Use proper protection.

 Drink lots of water. It's so important for proper skin hydration and keeping your body clean from toxins and other chemicals that could cause adverse reactions in your skin.

 You should know what you are using on your skin. If you can't pronounce the majority of the ingredients or there are more than 5 or 6 ingredients, then it may be too complex for what your skin actually needs. Skin care that uses these types of formulations are full of fillers, coloring, preservatives, and chemicals that are not beneficial for your skin and come with a high price where the consumer is paying for the filler more so than the active ingredients. These types of ingredients are only needed to fill up the bottle and make it appealing to smell or touch. Sometimes products will contain multiple active ingredients but in order to formulate these ingredients, it requires that other ingredients be added. You end up paying for something your skin cannot use. The cheaper ingredients are filling up the bottle. Try a similar approach to how you would choose your food (skin is 'live cells' and needs nourishment). Watch the labels and choose products with skin healthy formulations where the active ingredients are 80% of the ingredients.

 You should use a good and effective cleanser. This is the most important step in your skin care process. Many cleansing products do not leave your skin feeling smooth and deeply cleansed. Find a product that goes deep into the pores, provides light exfoliation and conditioning, and does not leave any residue. Applying moisturizers and treatments on top of skin that is not completely clean will just make the problem worse by clogging pores and showing a rough, uneven skin texture.

 You should be able to adjust your program to meet your skin's daily needs. If you can't adjust the use of the products to match what your skin needs on a particular day, are you really getting what you need? Your program should be able to hydrate, heal, and renew your skin. You should see this gradual improvement everyday and not have to wait 30 to 60 days for results. It's like watering a plant. A plant that needs water as a critical nutrient will respond immediately to the water being absorbed through its roots and perk up within a few hours. Watch your skin for a week or so and you'll know how effective the program can ultimately be for your skin care needs.

 You should be able to quickly go through your regime. It should not take more than 5 minutes. A skin care program should include the steps to cleanse, exfoliate, treat and/or moisturize. You should be able to pick and choose what you need based on you skin's current condition for that day.

 You should not be able to feel the product on your skin. In order for skin care to really be effective, it must penetrate the skin cells. Product sitting on top of your skin is product that is not penetrating the skin layers. Products with fillers and other unnecessary, complex formulations will may not get deep or directly enough to provide the treatment and results you are looking for. You should not know that you are wearing your skin care.

 You should feel comfortable with makeup optional skin. If your skin care is really working, your skin will improve and you will not want to put makeup on it if you don't have to. Most skin problems are correctable to a large degree. You should be able to go out feeling confident that your skin is at its best (with minimal makeup) no matter what your age is. Also, by using makeup less, you are giving your skin more time to repair and restore itself without the interruption of other product chemicals on your skin.

Anti-Aging Skin Care Products: The Evolution

Anti-Aging Skin Care Products: The Evolution

During the last 10 years more attention is paid to the anti aging skin care. Developments within this category were influenced by such factors as competition among the major brands, introduction of new technologies and new ingredients, as well as worldwide increase in demand for the so-called "rejuvenating cosmetics". People have no intentions of putting up with aging. Today they are turning to alternative therapies and anti aging products; however, they will not spend money on products which do not produce the wished results.

First anti aging skin care products appeared during the late 1980s. The first liposome ingredient delivery system was part of first generation anti aging skin care.

David Jago, an expert in the market analysis for MINTEL, evaluates the changes, which have taken place since then: "At present, the special properties, ingredients and benefits of the products are clearly shown on the label. In the late 1980s, it was only said that those products were firming, softening the skin, reducing lines etc., but their functional ingredients were usually not disclosed. Today's press often informs us of specific ingredients and their benefits, thus contributing to the consumers' education". As a result, there appeared a category of skin care products intended for specific age groups or needs. Usually, women aim at making their aging skin look younger, or their young skin - healthier.

In the beginning of 1990s, many anti aging skin care ingredients have been studied. The most important of those, Alpha Hydroxyl Acids (AHA), became the first ingredients to affect the aging skin. Sally Penford, of the International Dermal Institute, a postgraduate training school for therapists, comments: "It stimulated women to start considering cosmetic surgery, glycolic acid peels and laser skin treatments".

Another "great revolution" in anti aging skin care has been in the use of A, C and E vitamins, as well as group B vitamins and main fatty acids - they all have a special role of agents preventing premature aging. Of course they do not make miracles, but can support the good condition of the skin. As skin ages and is repeatedly exposed to harmful UV rays, the level of vitamin A, produced in the body, constantly decreases. The skin renewal processes slow down and the epidermal layer becomes progressively thinner. Some of the research of the ingredients, such as vitamin C, was held in 1990s. Further, scientists identified two key chemical "helpers" to assist in the delivery of vitamin C through the skin.

The formulations derived from it led to the development of anti aging skin care products, containing vitamin C and products, which contained a combination of vitamin C and pure Retinol (until recently, it has been extremely hard to combine both Retinol and vitamin C together in a stable formulation, as both ingredients are easily oxidized, when exposed to the air, and become inactive). In 1990s this type of skin care was already produced all over the world.

Further on, a great deal of interest in the anti-oxidants has been shown. A lot of studies have been done which show that protecting the skin can delay the onset of aging. The SUVIMAX studies in France showed that the use of anti-oxidants on the skin slows down the aging process. It is also possible to reduce lines and improve skin firmness.

Benefits of anti-oxidants were detected in grape seeds extracts. After that, cosmetic companies started using these benefits in their skin care products. Grape polyphenols are natural compounds derived from green grape seed extract which have been shown to have a powerful anti-oxidant effect. They shield the skin from the aggression of a wide range of free radicals and are known to help maintain the skin's moisture levels.

In the middle of 1990s Estee Lauder has completed research into understanding more about skin cells losing energy. Dr. Maes, Vice-President Research and Development, Estee Lauder Worldwide, explains: "We cannot make the skin look like when it was in youth. Technologies can decrease the lines by 50%, but we will never decrease them by 100%. We have studied skin samples and found that its thickness is already decreasing from the age of 20. In biological terms, if the cells are losing energy they will also lose their ability to protect themselves against the environment."

He compares this loss of energy to that of a battery running low which needs to be recharged. Thus, to slow down aging and protect the skin cells, manufacturers started using anti-oxidants, sunscreens and skin energizing technologies to "recharge" cells. They are described as a next generation skin nourishers that enable skin to tap into a fuel source of bio-available micro-nutrients.

The scientists have studied different types of skin aging and it means that they are capable of developing skin care which will effectively abate aging. It is recognized that 90% of skin damage is caused by external environmental aging. This includes smoking, wind, chemicals, and, most importantly, UV radiation. The level of pollution increases so quickly that skin cells can not develop self-protection mechanisms. Free radicals or oxidants are naturally generated in the body as a reaction to the aggression of external, environmental factors as well as internal factors such as stress and tiredness. A consequence of this aggression is an acceleration of the skin's aging process. Most of skin damage is done in the early years and people do not see the results of this until they are in their forties and fifties.

The reason for this is due to the skin's chronological aging, which we can do nothing about. Internal, chronological aging is largely a consequence of genetics and affects skin all over the body.

Modern scientific research in skin care and the growing knowledge of the skin's physiology mean that it is possible to stop and even repair skin damage which occurs later on in life. Thus, the latest thinking and research is focused on developing skin protection not from a plain Sun Protection Factor but from the cells themselves. The case in point is a new area of cosmetology (allocosmetics) and skin care products of modern generation of late 1990s, which are based on cell extracts that have lately drawn much attention of scientists. Cells can segment themselves and reproduce identical copies, replace old skin cells by new ones of the same type, take part in biochemical skin processes. This is what we call lifetime self-rejuvenation.

The strides made in anti aging technology over the past decade have been astounding and clearly show no signs of abating. We can be certain that there will be many more exciting achievements in anti aging skin care technology to come.

Skin Care Acne Treatments

Skin Care Acne Treatments

Skin care treatments conducted by a trained skin care therapist can be a great way to reduce your acne symptoms. Regular facials using particular treatments can help to reduce acne in the following ways:

1. Hydroxy Acid Treatments or peels- Your skin care therapist can use a stronger percentage of this type of product on your skin, in this style of treatment. Most skin care centres will offer a course of treatments, as this gives the best results.

This type of facial will dissolve the glue that is sticking your dead skin cells down, and clogging the pores. The active ingredient (AHA or BHA) may tingle and be a bit uncomfortable, however this is perfectly normal. If you experience burning, let your therapist know, as you may have reacted with the product.

Results should lead to less congestion, and clearer skin, if you are also following a good routine at home.

2. High Frequency - During your facial your therapist will use machinery known as high frequency. It is a glass rod that uses violet light and neon gas to kill bacteria in the skin as well as oxygenating. I have always though it looked like a light saber, from Star Wars. It shouldn't hurt at all, but it is noisy, so if you are a bit worried have your therapist do it on your hand first.

3. Galvanic- This is also another type of machinery used by the skin care therapist. This allows them to open the pores and infused active products directly into the pore.

4. Microdermabrasion - A small devise, similar in action to a sander, is used to exfoliated and smooth the skins surface. This can be a particularly useful tool for eliminating acne scars. This treatment is not painful and needs to be done over a course to see results.

Acne Medications:

Acne medications are now used in either an oral or topical form to treat acne conditions. Ro-accutane and Retin-A are the most well know acne medication, however they do come with some serious side effects. Milder antibiotics can be taken first, however they still come with some side effects you should consider before deciding to take them.

The Pill:

Your Doctor may recommend a prescription of the contraceptive pill for females to take to reduce their acne. The pill works by balancing the hormones. A high estrogen pill would be prescribed as it will help to lower the amount of testosterone. Testosterone produces a sticker oil as well as more oil in the skin, which is why so many teenagers battle with acne. When the testosterone is lowered the oil production reduces and the result is less clogging in the pores.

Natural Remedies:

If you're not into taking harsh drugs, and don't mind waiting a little longer to see results, natural may be an option for you. Talking to a Naturopath will give you an idea of what can be taken to help clear your acne.
Diet:

So is it fact or myth? Can diet fix your acne... Not on it's own no. However what you eat can either help or hinder your condition.

Five Common Skin Care Mistakes To Avoid

Five Common Skin Care Mistakes To Avoid

The key to an effective skin care routine is to keep it simple. If you're spending so much time morning and evening on skin care that it's exhausting - you're going overboard. Likewise if you're spending a fortune on drawers full of bottles and jars only to be persuaded by the next new miracle product again and again. Cut back, keep things to a minimum and your skin will thank you for it. Embracing simplicity in your skin care routine will help you avoid mistake number one.

#1 Assuming more is better.

As with make-up and perfume, slathering on skin-care products will not improve their performance. Many women assume that if a little of something is good, more will be better. But falling into such a pattern of thinking can even be dangerous for your skin. Products like over-the-counter skin peels can be very effective, if used according to the instructions provided - but can easily irritate your skin and cause lasting damage if not used carefully.

#2 Using Soap

But be careful not to go too far toward the ascetic with skin care. Soap is definitely to be avoided - even if it makes skin care quick and simple, the convenience is not worth the drying effect soap will have on your skin. It strips your skin of its natural oil barrier. Switch to a gentle cleanser as soon as you can.

#3 Cleansing Only Once a Day

Many people have a routine that they follow diligently every morning and then don't cleanse at night. Not cleansing at night will leave your skin's pores clogged with the make-up and sunscreen from the day, not to mention the dirt and grime that has settled onto your skin as you rushed through the day. No matter how tired you feel - cleans your skin when you get home.

#4 Not Drinking Enough Water

What you put inside your body will have immediate and lasting impact on the appearance of your skin and drinking lots of water (8 glasses a day!) will help your body to help itself. Your skin, the largest organ in your body, isn't just there to keep your insides together. It also works hard to regulate temperature, help eliminate toxins from your system and a myriad other jobs. Drinking a lot of water can help flush out your system, improve your digestion and hydration. Your first step in any skin care regime should be to pay more attention the hydration and nourishment you provide for your body. If you ignore this aspect of skin care, no cream or lotion will be able to cover up the damage.

#5 Being Careless About Sun Protection.

Sun damage is a leading cause of aging and slapping on a bit of sun-cream in the morning before you dash out the door will do very little to help you avoid the photo-aging effects of UV. Stay out of the sun in the middle of the day as much as you can, wear a wide brimmed hat and apply a high quality, high SPF sunscreen often to protect your skin.

Good Skin Care is Important

Good Skin Care is Important

Good skin care is essential to graceful aging. Babies have smooth, soft skin that is wrinkle free and moist. Over time harsh elements in the environment wear on the skin making is dryer and tougher. With age comes wrinkles and sagging in the skin. Good skin care can slow down the harmful effects of time and the environment.

Before good skin care can be attempted, it is important to have a thorough understanding of how the skin operates. Skin consists of three layers. The inner most layer is the subcutaneous tissue. The tissue in the subcutaneous layer contains fat cells, which insulate the body. The middle layer is the dermis. The dermis contains the connective tissues.

The outermost layer of skin is called the epidermis. The purpose of the epidermis is to protect the inner skin from environmental contaminants. Cells in the epidermis continuously travel from the inner most part of the epidermis to the surface, flaking off once they reach the top. The cells in the epidermis become thinner over time. Less collagen is produced causing skin to lose its elasticity. This causes the skin to sag and wrinkle.

The number of sweat glands also decrease over time leading to dryer skin. As people age, cells in the subcutaneous layer become smaller also contributing to the sagging and wrinkling. UVA and UVB radiation from sunlight thin the epidermis even more. They also contribute to a faster breakdown of collagen in the dermis.

Good skin care requires cleansing and moisturizing. Cleansing is essential to remove dirt and dead skin cells. It helps to prevent pimples or acne. Cleansing, however, can dry out the skin. Cleansing removes the oil on the skin, which retains moisture. As a result moisturizers are needed to restore water to the skin and protect the skin.

Special liquid cleaners are recommended over using traditional bar soap. Liquid cleansers can be made with moisturizer to combat the drying agents in the cleansers. The type of cleaner chosen depends on the skin type of the person using it. Vitamin E is often included in good skin care products as it helps moisturize the skin.

It also maintains elasticity. The type of moisturizer used is important as well. A heavier moisturizer should be used at night while a thinner, lighter moisturizer is recommended for daytime use.

Good skin care requires a lot of effort. A regime of cleaning and moisturizing should be followed everyday in order to be effective. Avoiding exposure to the sun and tanning is ideal to prevent the harmful effects of radiation. Application of sunscreen with a minimum SPF of 15 is helpful as well. Smoking should be avoided.

A healthy diet is beneficial in improving the elasticity of the skin. Drinking water is essential to good skin care. Water helps the body function better. It also cleans the pores from the inside. It re-hydrates the skin, which helps the skin stay moist. Keeping good habits in addition to good skin care will help the skin age gracefully and beautifully.

Many commercial skin care products such as soap, lotion, and cream, are made with cheap refined vegetable oils. Sometimes chemical solvents are used during this refining process. During this refining process, anti-oxidants are stripped away allowing skin to be vulnerable for free-radical generation, causing skin to age faster. Instead, coconut oil is high in anti-oxidants penetrating the underlying skin tissues preventing and protecting against the formation of free radicals. Virgin coconut oil is non-hydrogenated containing a lauric acid, a natural anti-microbial proven to fight viruses and bacteria.

Some commercial body care products tend not to, even, use cheap refined vegetable oils. Instead, they use something worse such as mineral oil and byproducts of refined oil. Also, foaming agents and surfactants are often added to commercial soap to generate lather. These chemicals are known to cause allergy and skin sensitization.

Many commercial soaps are now including chemically produced, unnatural, anti-bacterial agents, like Triclosan, in order to claim the soap has anti-bacterial properties. Triclosan is an environmental toxin in its own right and is still completely legal to add to commercial soap! Now that is a skin care concern!

How is coconut oil used? It is found in a variety of bath and body products. It is found in many foods and used for cooking or frying. It is used as massage oil for relieving stress, tension or anxiety. It is used in a variety of ways.

Five Things Essential to Skin Care

Five Things Essential to Skin Care
By Michael Russell

Skin care is a delicate matter. Skin is baby soft when we are born and becomes dryer, rougher and more saggy as time goes by. Hormones can cause pores to clog, which will result in pimples and acne. Age causes skin to sag and wrinkle.

The environment and life choices such as smoking can further the damage. Five things in particular are useful in fighting the effects of time and our surrounding on our skin.

All skin care routines should begin with a good cleanser. It is important to take note of what kind of skin you have. Some people have oily skin while others have dry tight skin. Some people have a combination of both types. There are also many people with sensitive skin.

Many cleansers are specially formulated to fit any skin type. Excess oil on the skin can lead to an increase in pimples. Dry skin feels extremely tight immediately after cleansing. Dry skin may flake off. Combination skin will feel oily in the T zone and dry elsewhere. Good skin care requires cleansing in the morning and at night.

Moisturizer is the second thing that is essential to skin care. Moisturizer helps to restore natural oils washed away during cleansing. Lotions used on the body should not be applied to the face. Certain moisturizers are specially formulated to protect against wrinkles as you age.

Some moisturizers contain sunscreen to help protect against the sun during the day. Different moisturizers should be used at night to revitalize the skin while you sleep. Moisturizer should always be a part of any skin care routine.

Water is the third thing that should be included in any skin care regimen. It is recommended that you drink 6 to 8 glasses of water everyday.

Water is needed to help the body function properly. It also helps to cleanse the pores and keep skin looking vibrant and radiant. Water helps to keep the skin hydrated from the inside.

Exercise is also important to skin care. Many experts agree that exercise can improve the look and feel of skin. Exercise improves circulation and helps to flush out toxins.

It helps to deliver nutrients to the skin and encourages the production of collagen, which reduces wrinkles. Exercise is also effective in reducing stress, which can in turn reduce acne. It is important to remember to cleanse immediately following exercise to prevent the pores from getting clogged.

Diet is the final essential ingredient in a good skin care regimen. Like water, a healthy diet keeps the body functioning properly. Diet is also responsible for delivering important nutrients to our skin.

Vitamin A obtained from low fat dairy products will help keep skin looking vibrant. Antioxidant rich foods such as berries will help skin appear younger. Healthy oils help keep the skin hydrated. Green tea, whole grains, salmon and nuts are all beneficial to skin as well.

Good skin care doesn't come easy. With these 5 things, skin will be healthy, vibrant and younger for a long time to come.

Botox For Busy People

Botox For Busy People

Do you look in the mirror and see an old person? Do you have wrinkles around your mouth or crow's feet around your eyes? Have your wrinkles give you a permanent look of sadness or stress?

Wrinkles are normal; they are just one of those blessed side effects that come with age. But is also normal to wish you looked and felt younger. In the past, the only way to achieve a dramatically more youthful look was to undergo plastic surgery. These procedures are somewhat invasive, expensive, and often take at least a few weeks of recovery. It is for this reason that only a small percentage of people actually elected for the surgery.

Plastic surgery procedures such as face and neck lifts or skin tightening procedures are still available and performed, but there is a new alternative available for people who wish to look younger but don't have the time, money, or guts to go through with surgery.

Botox injections have become increasingly popular because the treatments are less expensive, invasive, and there is virtually no recovery time. Botox is a toxin that is injected through tiny needles into the skin of the face.

This toxin slightly paralyzes the muscles of the face preventing wrinkles from appearing in places like your forehead, around your eyes and mouth, neck, or anywhere you wish wrinkles to disappear from. This gives your face an overall more relaxed and youthful look without wrinkles.

Plastic surgery costs thousands of dollars depending on the procedure, the surgeon, and the extent of the surgery. The prices are high because they include costs for general and local anesthesia, possible hospitalization time, and because the risk on the plastic surgeon's part is greater.

Botox is significantly less expensive costing on average $400 to $500 per treatment with the results of each treatment lasting about four months. Of course, because treatments are temporary, they must be repeated and costs will eventually add up. But most people find smaller and more spread out payments more manageable.

Plus, even plastic surgery procedures are not completely permanent. Gravity and age still wear on your face and skin following surgery. So in this time of economic stress, many people are finding that Botox is the better option.

Many people prefer Botox because they are too busy and can't sacrifice weeks away from work and responsibilities to recover from surgery. Possibly the most attractive feature of Botox injections is that treatments can be performed on a person's lunch break.

Depending on the number of injections needed, treatments may take 10-30 minutes and the people can return to work or their daily activities immediately with little or no side effects. Many people are now adding Botox treatments to their daily list of errands. Now you can conveniently fit looking younger into your busy schedule.

Many people who are afraid of surgery or of poor surgical results prefer the temporary feature of Botox. If they don't love the way they look after a treatment, it's okay because your face will be back to normal in four to six months and you never have to have injections again if you prefer it. People can essentially have a non-surgical, trial run on their new look when using Botox treatments.
